The former MP for Kumi County, Tom Omongole Aisu had died in a London hospital.
Omongole died of brain tumor and lung cancer at Midland hospital where he had been admitted since October.
Omongole represented Kumi in the sixth Parliament. He was the chairperson of a select committee that investigated corruption in the privatization sector between August 1998 and November 1999.
Omongole’s committee report exposed the fraud in the sale of Uganda Commercial Bank (UCB) to Gen. Salim Saleh and his partners in the former Greenland Bank.
Omongole lost Parliamentary elections in 2001 to Patrick Amuriat who is now the chairperson of Teso Parliamentary Group.
Amuriat says the country has lost a hard working politician and a nationalist. Omongole at the time of his death has been the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bukedea district.
