President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and his counter part of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has today opened the Peace and Security conference for the East African Community (EAC) at the Commonwealth Resort Beach Munyonyo, Kampala.
The three day meeting is about promoting the region’s peace, security frame work and identifying potential security challenges facing the EAC integration.
It will also discuss the Community’s governance, rule of law, conflict management, democracy, role of defence services, role of non state actors, and role of State actors.
The conference has been attended by over 300 delegates from EAC member states of Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania.
Some delegates have however come from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.
The delegates have been drawn from the EAC ministries of Defence, Water, Internal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Finance, Local Government, Environment, Human Rights Organizations, and selected Members of Parliament from EAC countries among others.
