The residents of Kalangala district are to undergo voluntary HIV/Aids testing from Monday November 23 to Friday November 27th, 2009.

The Director General of Uganda Aids Commission, Dr. Kihumuro Apuuli says the commission is going to convince the members of the fishing communities to accept voluntary counseling and testing for HIV.

He says research in the past has indicated that many members of the fishing communities in Uganda fear to undergo voluntary testing for HIV/Aids and counseling.

Addressing journalists today at the Commission’s head offices in Kampala, Dr. Kihumuro said the past negative responce of the fishers on HIV testing has greatly affected the fight against HIV/Aids in the area.

He called upon the district leaders to moblise people to go for voluntary HIV/Aids testing and counseling at the sub counties.

The Director General urges the government to establish more health centers and units in fishing corridors to take health services nearer to the people.
