Uganda Business News: Entrepreneurs to be awarded for environmental production

Ultimate Media Entrepreneurs who have convincing plans on how to deliver access to clean energy eastern Africa have a chance to win an award and international business mentoring in a new effort aimed at promote green business and entrepreneurship. The Bid Network, a group of venture capitalists and business coaches says companies who submit winning business plans will win up to 100, 000 US dollars (about 185 million shillings) in investment funds. The award sponsored by ECO (energy through Enterprise), Barclays, GVEP International, Jump up and FMO is open to businesses in Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda and Tanzania. A statement from Bid Network says that all companies that submit business proposals for providing clean energy to other businesses will receive coaching, feedback and support in writing their business plans. Under its flagship Bid Network Challenge, winners will also win a business trip to the Netherlands, get expert advice while starting their businesses and access over 100 investors interested in financing businesses in developing countries. Interest entrepreneurs are being encouraged to submit their business plans by January 15th 2010. Clean energy comprises of wind, solar, biogas, hydro, liquefied petroleum gas, biomass and energy efficiency. Bid Network says the business proposals should show how finances will be used to establish, affordable, reliable technologies that move communities up the energy ladder towards cleaner, more modern forms of energy.
