Uganda Government News: African countries sign refugees' convention

A total of 15 African countries have today signed the Kampala convention on refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons.

Somalia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Zambia, Saharawi Democratic Republic and Kenya are among the countries that have signed the protocol.

The convention has been signed by African presidents, Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers and Foreign Affairs Ministers.

President Museveni signed on behalf of Uganda. He urged all African countries to ratify the African Union convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa.

Museveni says this will provide a lasting solution to the problems of refugees, Internally Displaced People and returnees on the African continent.

On the same function, the President of Zambia, Rupia Banda promised that his country will ratify the convention.
