Director: John Singleton

Main Cast: Mark Wahlberg, André Benjamin, Tyrese Gibson, Garrett Hedlund, Terence Howard

Genre: Action/Drama

Plot:
Evelyn Mercer is well known around town for being a Good Samaritan. Amongst those she helped mould into young men are four men who she adopted as children. Even more than the many around town, these four brothers are shocked when she is gunned down. They need to find out who is responsible for their mother’s death. It is the least they can do for what she has done for them while growing up.

Review:
What can I say? I was bored. I found myself impatiently waiting for the end so that I could leave the movie theatre. It is not so much that the acting is poor… or even the visuals. The first thing that is poor about the movie is the story. The story is too simple. Then they tried to put in some twists that made the movie all-over-the-place instead of being interesting. Imagine you are looking ahead at a simple scenery, then someone suddenly holds your head to make you turn one way and then again to make you turn the other way. That is what a simple story with deep twists makes you feel like.

Other things that made the movie poor:

  • The whole white/black “brotherly” brothers thing was over played in the movie the same way it was over played in the trailers. They were not even believable as brothers(white, green, black or purple).
  •

  • We saw too much of the goody-goody Evelyn Mercer "naught-boys" comments to her sons, that by her last appearance one felt like reaching out and slapping her face. This was probably because she died too early in the movie for us to connect with her plus her Good Samaritan nature came with a slight know-it-all attitude that one would not want her to be their mother.
  •

  • Every one in the movie was trying hard to be too "cool" and GANGSTA. The character that was least GANSTA was the one who was supposed to be the most feared in the movie.

There is a bit of cast repetition as once again we see Terence Howard, Taraji P. Henson as well as their producer, John Singleton, from Hustle and Flow. This makes it even more disappointing because a lot of us expected a good treat after Hustle and Flow.

Not worth watching in the theatre or on DVD is my take on Four Brothers.

    Favorite scene:
I have no favorite scene in the movie. but the best thing about this movie is that André Benjamin of Outcast can act. It will be interesting to see where he goes with acting.

    Marketing Stunts:
Well, please refer to the stunts of Hustle and Flow and the whole Beyonce thing. In addition, I found it clever that they brought out Hustle and Flow first to excite us all so that we would be back for the next movies. They knew very well that this movie was weaker than the first. They sure know how to play with our minds.
