The issue close to my heart is lack of medication in Africa. I would like to see the health medication system improve; innocent children are dying everyday in Africa because of lack of medication. I like to dance and listen to music. I have participated in an annual multi-cultural festival at my high school, where students of different nationalities came together to show their cultures and customs. I am grateful to be given this opportunity to compete in a pageant. This experience has taught me how to be strong and to embrace who I as an African woman. I would like to thank my family, friends and fans for all the support and encouragement. May God bless you all.

Welcome to UGPulse.com, Can you please share with us one or two things about your background?
My name is Soretti Hubena and I am a proud 20 year old African young woman. I come from a family of six siblings. I am a fun, caring, and loving person who takes pleasure in building my life up and helping those around me. Making a difference in the lives of others gives me so much joy and pleasure. Coming to America has changed my life and for that, I will always have the need to help others. I attend Columbus State Community College where I major in Nursing. I have future plans to join a four-year college to finish my major in Nursing. Becoming a nurse has been my long time desire as I would like to work with children by giving them hope and encourage them to look forward to their future as I help them regain their health. During my free time, when not working or volunteering at Children's Hospital, I spend time with family and friends. My hobbies include dancing, shopping, and learning new things.

What motivated you and led you to entering Miss Africa United states amongst all the other beauty pageants?
I was motivated when I learnt about the mission statement of this pageant and I was driven to enter the contest knowing that I will have the opportunity to share my thoughts and feelings about my mother land, Africa. I know that life is challenging but I want to encourage people around me to look to the future. I think that it is important to remind people that the key to a bright future is education. I am happiest when I can make a difference in the lives of others. My goal is to strive for positive change in Africa and in the world.

What is it about Ethiopia that makes you want to fly its flag high in USA and the world beyond?
I love my country for providing its citizens with the resources they need. I am proud of the fact that Ethiopia has different and diverse cultures in each tribe. I am also proud that Ethiopia is surrounded by beautiful nature and beautiful people.

What book are you currently reading?
I am reading a brief illustrated guide to Understanding Islam Second Edition by I.A Ibrahim. The book discusses people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity and divine involvement in the universe and human life.

What's the one thing you would never do without?
Only one thing comes to mind God. He is the only man I have known since birth and he knows both my weaknesses and strengths.

What are your favourite places in Africa that you would recommend for people to visit?
Tullubo and Sidamo which are both in Ethiopia. I would also be honored to visit South Africa, Liberia, and Senegal.

Beauty is defined in more ways than one, how would you describe beauty in the eyes of an African woman?
I personally believe that beauty is something that comes from within and grows as we come to discover who we are. In addition to inner beauty, I believe that African women are truly beautiful when they have a soft, dark skin and carry their unique culture and history proudly with them.

How would you represent and portray Africa and its people as an ambassador to USA and the rest of the world?
Everyday life in Africa is quite different from how it is portrayed in the media. In Africa we always work hard for what we have and we are motivated by looking forward to a better future. I do not like the way that the media portraits Africa, I believe that African nations are often portrayed negatively and incorrectly. Africa is often presented as a poor continent; however, just like in America we have wealthy and poor people. We have beautiful houses, educated individuals, and a wealth of natural beauty and resources including gold, diamonds, and oil. I also feel that it is important to note that many African nations were among the first nations in the world to have female presidents and leaders. In addition to all of this, Africa has food that no one can resist.

What are your inspirations and what do you aspire to be?
In addition to my dream of working in a children's hospital as a nurse, I also have a passion for fashion and modelling. I was first inspired to want to model by watching models and beauty pageants. About two years ago, I decided to try to make my dream of becoming a model a reality and when I received a call from an agency in Florida for a modelling try-out I was thrilled. However, since I was in school at the time, I decided to cancel the try-out and look forward to another great opportunity to come along. Now, here I am, two years later, ready participant in a pageant representing my country and all of Africa. All of this has taught me to dream big and work hard to achieve my goals and reach my dreams.

Just like the rest of the delegates, I am sure you are in it to win it. Why do you want to be crowned Miss Africa United States?
I see this pageant as a huge opportunity to achieve positive change in African nations. Winning this pageant would allow me to bring improvements to African nations. I would like to raise awareness about disease in Africa and bring medicine to people of Africa. After all of the struggles and pain that Africa has been through I think that it is time for the young generation to give back to Africa and strive to make the future better for the great nations of Africa.

Have you got any beauty tips you would want to share with UGPulse readers?
First thing when you wake up wash your face with water and only water!! Then put on some face lotion to protect your skin from drying out.
