Hi Mary, can you please share with us some brief information on your background?
Hello UGPulse.com readers. My name is Mary Dour; I was born in Khartoum, Sudan on 12/24/1987. At the tender age of nine, my family and I left Sudan and moved to Egypt because of the civil war that was going on between North and South Sudan. However, in September 2000 we moved to the USA where we now reside in Buffalo, NY.

I completed my primary education at Catholic Central and for my secondary education I went to Mount Mercy Academy where I graduated in 2006 and currently I am attending Eire Community College. I will soon be transferring to New York University to study International Relations. I am very involved with my community and passionate about my origin. In 2006 I took part in Miss Southern Sudan and I came third. I enjoy modeling at present but it's not my future career. I model for Excel Models. My mother has a very big impact in my life, she is my role model and throughout my life she has moulded me into a strong, ambitious young lady that I am now. She has also taught me that above everything, family value is very important.

Lady Katie Njeuma has founded this prestigious pageant in order to re-define the image of the African woman and enable a better understanding of the continent and its people. What was your drive behind entering the contest?
I entered this contest because I wanted to secure my sense of confidence and to show off to the world and young girls of my continent the beauty that lies within Sudan.

What is it you love most about Sudan?
I have so much passion for my country; I love everything about my country.

What book are you currently reading?
Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America by Charisse Jones, Kumea Shorter-Gooden.

What is the one thing you would never do without?
My faith; because its keeps me balanced and focused with a purpose of living each day of my life to the maximum.

Africa is one of the most beautiful continents in the world with plenty of recourses and tourists attractions. What are your favorite spots in Africa?
My favorite Spot in Africa is my homeland Sudan, isn't this obvious by now?

How would you describe beauty in the eyes of an African woman?
Beauty comes from within; it is all about having a deep sense of confidence and putting it into practice in order to help other people especially the younger generation.

If you are crowned Miss Africa USA, you will be taking on a major role. How would you sell Africa as an ambassador to USA and the rest of the world?
Africa is a virgin continent that is with diverse cultures and enormous natural resources, nature and although full of ancient history it is still very vibrant today. Based on these elements, Africa is the greater host for anyone who seeks to flourish in business and cultural exchange. And I am sure I will do a wonderful job to integrate Africa and its people and the rest of world.

What are your inspirations and what do you aspire to be?
My inspiration is to be able to help the vulnerable people that are in need. My hope is to work in human rights field and be a voice for the voiceless and assist in every way I can.

I am sure you have a lot of support behind you to win this contest, Why do you think you should be crowned Miss Africa United States?
I should be crowned as Miss Africa USA because I strongly believe it will provide me with a broader platform that will enable me to demonstrate my interest in my career path in human rights and education. My interest in human rights emerged from my own life story in Sudan. I believe that I would be able to save my younger African brothers and sisters that are suffering with loneliness, illness and without education. I believe that this is my opportunity to show my continent that I care. I want to help them with their education and provide them with Love and care that no one has provided them for long time.

If I am crowned Miss Africa USA I will form fundraisers all over USA because I want to form a non-profit organization that will help the children and women of Africa. I believe that women are also in need of help back home. Some of them are suffering from diseases such as AIDS and other diseases that are caused by unhealthy environments. These children are the future of Africa. I believe that I need do something in return for those African people that suffer in civil war. I believe that God is calling on me to help these children and women that are in need of help.

Have you got any beauty tips you would like to share with UGPulse readers?
I think the way a woman carries herself in a crowd is the most important part of the beauty that every women should have. Every black woman should know that our black skin colour is very beautiful and unique, so please DO NOT try to lighten your skin. Keep it dark & lovely.
